I know, another handwashing article *sigh*? But listen, we’ve got some secrets to share (come closer, just not too close;)).
Hands – that touch your face, your kids, your kids face, your partner, your pets, handrails, doorknobs, food, refrigerator handles, toothbrushes, crumbs on the floor, dirty underwear, tissues, diaper pails, utensils...OHHH, you get it – are one of the main pathways of germ transmission. Sometimes it’s easier to NOT think about it, we understand!
Point is, keeping your paws clean is a simple but critical responsibility you can easily tackle that will benefit you and your loved ones.
The Secrets to “Why Wash?”
OK, it’s no secret, we all know washing hands helps prevent illnesses and spread of infections to others by removing germs from hands. But did you know that according to a study featured by the NIH, people touch their face on average 23 times per hour, the majority of touches being on or in our eyes, nose, and mouth? That’s A LOT of touching.
The Secrets on How to Wash
Good handwashing is the first line of defense against the spread of many illnesses, not just Coronavirus.
HOTTTT TIP: a proper wash should take about as long as singing “Since You’ve Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson! Here are some of our other favorite hand washing songs (there are some doozies!)
And for those of you that struggle to scrub AND sing at the same time, just sing your song while following the below motions step by step, courtesy of the World Health Organization. You can do it!
And lastly, antibacterial soap? According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there isn’t enough science to show that over-the-counter antibacterial soaps are better at preventing illness than washing with plain soap and water.
And since any soap will do in preventing illness, we prefer using soaps that are gentle on your skin for multiple washes during the day, even better if they’ve been dermatologist-tested, or have skin-loving ingredients.
In summary, be kind to yourself. Make a mundane chore fun. And choose products that are better for you and your loved ones. Everyone can help prioritize the health and wellness in their homes. And Aunt Fannie’s is here to help.
